Full demolition — coordinated through our licensed partner

Most sheds come down in a morning. The door and windows come off, the roof gets cut loose in sections, the walls drop inward so nothing lands where it shouldn't, and the whole thing rides out in pieces — then somebody rakes the footprint flat so you can see what you've got back.
For nine categories of standalone structure, that somebody is us: sheds, decks, fences, hot tubs, above-ground pools, gazebos, playsets, coops, greenhouses — hand demo plus saws, published starting prices, fixed quote on site, disposal included. Same trucks, same dispatch as everything else on the menu.
Then there's the work that's genuinely bigger than that — house teardowns, detached garages, barns, sunrooms, in-ground pools, interior gut-outs, mobile homes, commercial strip-outs. We used to say a flat "no" to those calls. Now the answer is better: that work is coordinated through our licensed demolition partner, who quotes and contracts the demolition directly, and every load of debris goes out in our own dumpsters. The partner brings the machines and the license for real demolition; Grizzly brings a hundred-can roll-off fleet and runs the debris end to end.
Two tracks, one phone number, and total clarity on this page about which is which.
Demolition in action
Track one: what we take down ourselves
Standalone outbuildings and accessory structures — anything that stands on its own and isn't attached to the main house. These are self-performed jobs with published starting prices and a fixed quote confirmed at a free on-site walkthrough:
- Sheds — 8x10 through 16x20+, wood, metal, plastic, or resin. Single-day teardown in most cases.
- Chicken coops — coops, runs, and small backyard structures.
- Decks — attached (ledger-unbolt) or freestanding, all sizes.
- Fences — chain link, wood, vinyl, by the linear foot. Posts pulled or cut and disclosed.
- Hot tubs — on grade or deck-mounted, drained and cut, out in a visit.
- Above-ground pools — walls, liner, frame, and pool-serving decking. Pool decking is covered on this page too.
- Gazebos and pergolas — standalone, on-grade or shallow footings.
- Playsets, swing sets, trampolines — wood or metal, usually 1-2 hours.
- Greenhouses — frame plus glazing, with the glass handled deliberately and the footprint magnet-swept.
Each link goes to a dedicated page with that structure's pricing, job flow, and FAQs. If your structure isn't on the list, mention it when you call — the rule is "standalone, not attached to the house, and small enough for a hand crew." Anything bigger than that rule runs on the coordinated track below, which is where detached garages, barns, and sunrooms now live.

Track two: real demolition, coordinated
Eight project types where the honest move is bringing in the specialist — coordinated through our licensed demolition partner, who quotes and contracts the demolition directly, while every load of debris goes out in our own dumpsters at the posted rates published across this site:
- House demolition — full residential teardowns and partial demolition, permit-utility-asbestos sequence walked as process.
- Detached garage demolition — single-bay to two-car, plus lofts and lean-tos; the permit and the electrical disconnect come first, and the slab stays.
- Barn & outbuilding demolition — old framing that rarely stands the way it looks, screened for transite before anything is scheduled.
- Sunroom removal — three-season and stick-built rooms; the attachment to the house envelope is what makes it demolition rather than hauling.
- In-ground pool removal — gunite, concrete, and vinyl-liner pools; partial fill-in or full removal, scoped per property.
- Interior demolition — kitchen and bathroom guts, whole-floor strip-outs, selective demo with a keep list.
- Mobile home demolition — teardown-in-place for manufactured homes, chassis to scrap, title and park requirements sorted first.
- Commercial demolition — tenant strip-outs, de-brandings, small commercial teardowns, phased and occupied-building work.
Why route these through a dumpster company? Because debris is most of a demolition's logistics, and it's the half Grizzly owns outright. Demolition companies rent their roll-offs from someone; Grizzly owns a hundred identical 20-yard cans out of two Connecticut yards. The partner's contract covers the teardown; the container pipeline on your project is first-party, not a markup on somebody else's fleet.
All eight are quote-only — no starting-price grid, because machines, engineering, permit sequencing, and abatement don't belong in a rate card. The demolition quote form is the intake for both tracks.
What stays off the menu entirely
A shorter list than it used to be, but still a real one — these are out on both tracks:
- Asbestos and lead paint abatement. Licensed-specialist work, full stop. On self-performed jobs we stop and refer if we identify suspect material; on partner-coordinated demolition, survey-then-abatement precedes the teardown as standard sequence. Either way, nobody on this page performs abatement and nothing hazardous rides in our cans.
- Concrete cutting, breaking, or hauling on our own jobs. Slabs stay unless the scope says otherwise, and broken concrete is clean-fill material for a specialist hauler. On partner projects, concrete routes the way the excavation plan dictates.
- Blasting or explosives. Obviously not — on any track.
Working in clear lanes is how prices stay honest and timelines stay real. If a job doesn't fit either track, we'll say so on the call and point you at the right kind of contractor.

How the pricing works: These are starting prices, and most jobs land here. Every one includes teardown, loading, hauling, and full disposal — no separate dump fee, no labor line added later. What moves the number up: size, how far the structure sits from where the truck can park, whether the crew has to carry debris through a gate or around a house, material, footings or a slab, and distance from our depots for jobs outside Fairfield and New Haven County. Concrete stays unless it's quoted. Send photos and we'll give you a real number — the price we quote is the price you pay, confirmed on site before anything comes down. We don't pull demo permits — that's the homeowner's responsibility when required.
Standalone outbuildings only — no interior demo, no full-house teardowns, no asbestos.
See demolition scopeSelf-performed demolition pricing
The structured pricing block above covers the self-performed track only — 13 starting-range categories pulled from our canonical pricing data, same source the chrome trust strip and the the complete rate reference reference page use. Partner-coordinated demolition is quote-only: the partner prices the teardown per project, and the dumpster line runs at our posted roll-off rates.
How self-performed pricing works in practice: we come out, walk the project with you, and confirm a fixed price before any work starts. The starting ranges above are honest floors based on the simplest version of each job — small shed that's already empty, hot tub that's already drained, fence in clear access. Real-world conditions adjust the price up: difficult access, multiple stories of decking, footings to dig out, salvage sorting, surrounding landscaping to protect, structures with unexpected complications under the surface (rusted-in fasteners, unexpected concrete, soft framing).
Whatever the final number is, you'll know it before anyone swings a hammer. No surprises after the truck is loaded — same pricing discipline as our roll-off and junk removal services. The on-site walkthrough is the contract; phone quotes from photos can ballpark the right tier, but the on-site number is the one you pay. Jobs that combine demolition with hourly general-labor work are walked through together on our labor + demo pricing reference.
Disposal of all demo materials is included in the total job price on self-performed work. Metal roofing and scrap steel get recycled; salvageable items you want saved get set aside before demo starts (mention it on the booking call). For the longer version of what drives a demo quote up or down, read our Connecticut demolition cost guide — and for the two structures people price most often, the deck removal cost guide and fence removal cost guide go deeper on what moves each number.
Ready to schedule a demolition?
Free site walkthrough on self-performed work; one call starts the partner coordination on full demolition. No obligation either way.
How a self-performed demo job runs
Five steps, no surprises:
- Call or send the quote form. (203) 219-8855 or the demolition quote form. Tell us the structure type, rough dimensions, and any access constraints — steep driveway, behind a fence, neighboring landscaping to protect. Photos help; text them to the same number along with your name.
- Site walkthrough. We come out and look. Most demo quotes happen the same week as the call. We walk the structure with you, confirm scope (anything you want salvaged?), and give you the fixed price on site, in writing, before leaving.
- You schedule. Most demo jobs book a few days to a week out from the walkthrough. Same-day demo is rare; this isn't a service where speed beats accuracy.
- Demo day. Typical durations: shed 1 day · hot tub half a day · deck 1 day · above-ground pool 1-2 days. We work daylight, dispatch hours from the Stamford or West Haven yard per the closer depot.
- Disposal and site cleanup. Materials go in our trucks or a staged roll-off, hauled to licensed CT transfer stations or recycled where appropriate (metal roofing, copper plumbing, scrap steel). Site is left at ground level — slab and any in-ground footings stay unless quoted otherwise. Disposal cost is folded into the job total, not a separate line item.
Partner-coordinated projects start the same way — one call — then run on the partner's scoping, permitting, and contracting sequence, with Grizzly's cans landing when the demolition schedule says so.

Permits
On self-performed work, we don't pull demo permits, even when one's required for the job. That's the homeowner's responsibility. Most of what we take down ourselves — small sheds, playsets, above-ground pools, hot tubs — doesn't require a permit in most CT towns. Large decks and structures over a certain square-footage threshold do.
Rules vary widely by town:
- Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk: most accessory structures over a town-set square-footage threshold need a demo permit pulled at the building department.
- Westport, Darien, New Canaan: similar permit thresholds — call the town's building department to confirm.
- Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury: city permit offices each have their own threshold rules and fee schedules.
- Fairfield County town websites all publish their permit thresholds. The call to confirm is usually 5 minutes.
If you call us and we determine a permit is needed, we'll flag it on the call, and we don't start demo until the homeowner has the permit in hand. On partner-coordinated demolition — house, detached garage, barn, sunroom, in-ground pool, interior, mobile home, commercial — the permit conversation is part of the partner's contracting sequence, and it's walked through with you before anything is scheduled. Detached garages are the permit-likeliest structure in the whole lineup, which is one reason that sequence belongs with the contractor performing the work.
Where we work
Same dispatch reach as our other services: ~1 hour drive from either depot, serving all of Connecticut within that arc. Stamford depot covers Fairfield County and Litchfield far-NW via Route 7. West Haven yard covers New Haven, Hartford, the Litchfield closer-in cluster, Middlesex, and the East CT shoreline through Old Lyme/East Lyme/Lyme.
Most demo work lands in Fairfield County — the original Stamford service area where outbuilding density is highest. Common book-from towns include Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk, Westport, Wilton, Darien, New Canaan, and Fairfield. NH County demo work routes from West Haven through Bridgeport, New Haven, Milford, and surrounding towns. Full town list at Service Area.
If you don't actually need a teardown — just dumpster rental for self-demo, or a hauling visit for stuff that's already torn down — those are different services on the menu: Roll-off Rentals (you do the work, we drop the can), Junk Removal (we load and haul, you don't tear down), Grizzly Bags (8-yard flexible bag for staged or smaller debris).
Serving all of Connecticut, county by county
Every county page covers how these jobs actually go there — access, housing stock, and the drive from our yard. The full service-area index stays the town-by-town answer. Post-demo mess without a structure attached? Debris removal is its own lane.

Demolition — recent customer reviews
Demolition is a newer service category — these are reviews mentioning teardown, hot-tub, and shed work pulled from our broader 463-review corpus.
Y “Justin and his guys are the best. We had to have an old hot tub removed from a screened porch that was sunken into the floor. Mike and his crew had that thing sawed up and removed in less than 2 hours, which saved me a bundle compared to some other quotes that I had received. They will haul just about anything away for you at very competitive pricing. I will definitely recommend these guys to everyone of my friends and use them again.”
Y “Very happy with removal of an old hot tub. Quick and fair price. Thank you!”
Y “Stamford Junk Pros are wonderful! I would highly recommend them. I needed help relocating a hot tub and they did an excellent job. The crew showed up on time and were professional, kind, and super helpful. They carefully thought out the best possible maneuvers to relocate it. A great experience.”
Demolition FAQs
Do you do interior demolition?
Not with Grizzly's own teams — but it's on the menu. Gut-outs and selective interior demo are coordinated through our licensed demolition partner, who quotes and contracts the demo work directly, while every load of debris goes out in Grizzly's own dumpsters on the demo schedule. Details on the interior demolition page. What Grizzly self-performs is standalone structure removal: sheds, decks, hot tubs, above-ground pools, fences, gazebos, playsets, coops, greenhouses.
Can you arrange a full house teardown?
Yes — arranged is the right word. Full house demolition runs through our licensed demolition partner, a licensed and insured demolition contractor who scopes the teardown and contracts it with you directly. Grizzly's role is the debris: cans placed, swapped, and hauled on the demolition schedule at our posted rates. One call sets up both halves; you end up with two clear contracts instead of one blended number.
How fast can you get a demo job done?
For the work we self-perform: most jobs book a few days to a week out from the call, with the site walkthrough usually the same week. The work itself is fast — most sheds, hot tubs, decks, and above-ground pools done in a day. Same-day demo is rare because we want to walk the site and quote accurately, not eyeball it over the phone. Partner-coordinated projects — house, garage, barn, sunroom, in-ground pool, interior, mobile home, commercial — run on the partner's scoping and permitting timeline, which we'll lay out honestly on the first call.
Do you pull demo permits?
For self-performed work, no — permits are the homeowner's responsibility. Most of what we take down ourselves (small sheds, playsets, above-ground pools, hot tubs) doesn't require a permit in most CT towns; large decks and bigger structures usually do. We'll flag it on the call, and we don't book the work until the homeowner confirms the permit is in hand. On partner-coordinated demolition — the track detached garages, barns, and sunrooms run on, along with houses and the rest — the partner walks you through the permit sequence as part of contracting.
What happens if there's asbestos?
Nobody on this page touches it — abatement is licensed-specialist work, full stop. On self-performed jobs, if we identify asbestos siding (transite panels) or asbestos shingles on site, we decline the demo and refer you to a licensed abatement contractor; once they've cleared the material, we come back for what's left. On partner-coordinated demolition, the survey-then-abatement sequence precedes the teardown as standard process. Pre-1980 structures are where the risk lives.
Where does the debris go?
Our trucks or our own roll-off cans, hauled to licensed CT transfer stations. Recycled where possible — metal roofing, copper plumbing, scrap steel get pulled and routed to the right facilities. On self-performed jobs, disposal cost is included in the total job price. On partner-coordinated projects, the dumpster line is Grizzly's own, at the posted rates published across this site.
Do you serve my town?
If you're within roughly 60 minutes' drive from our Stamford or West Haven yard — yes. That covers Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield, and Middlesex counties, plus lower New London County and Westchester County NY border towns. Beyond that we don't serve. Full town list at /service-area.
Can you save anything for me — like the doors, windows, or hardware?
Yes, on either track, as long as you say so before demo day. Selective removal where specific items get carefully taken out and set aside adds time, so the quote will reflect it — ours on self-performed work, the partner's on coordinated projects. Common requests: barn doors, antique hardware, copper gutters, fixtures from old hot tubs, salvageable beams and lumber. Mention it at intake so the day gets planned accordingly.
From structures we took down ourselves
Had Grizzly take down our old shed. It was leaning pretty bad and I didn't want my husband messing with it himself. They tore it apart, loaded everything and cleaned up all the little pieces around the yard. Very happy we just hired someone to do it.
We had an old playset in the backyard that was starting to fall apart. Grizzly took it down and hauled everything away. Kids were actually sad to see it go but I was not 😂
