The slab stays — here's why, and what your options are
Every garage quote we write assumes the concrete slab remains in place. We take the structure down to clean slab level — walls, roof, framing, sill plates, anchor hardware cut flush — and what's left is a level concrete pad.
The reason is a hard scope rule, not laziness: we don't cut, break, or haul concrete. Broken slab is dense clean-fill material that needs a jackhammer or breaker crew and a hauler set up for it. Pretending otherwise is how demo quotes turn into invoice surprises.
The good news is that a bare slab is rarely a problem. It becomes the parking pad, the basketball half-court, the base for the new garage or shed, the patio-to-be. And if you genuinely want it gone, the sequence is simple: we demo the structure first, then a concrete contractor breaks and hauls the slab from an open, easy-access site — which is cheaper for you than having them work around a standing building. Powered garage? The disconnect comes first
Most detached garages in our area carry at least one circuit from the house — lights, an opener, sometimes a subpanel that fed someone's workshop ambitions in 1987. Before demo day exists on the calendar, that feed needs to be disconnected and made safe at the source by a licensed electrician. Not taped off in the garage. Disconnected at the panel.

A garage walkthrough is the most consequential on our menu because the structure has the most ways to vary: heavy plaster interiors, double-layer roofs, brick or block half-walls, contents, lean-to additions, tight lot lines where debris has to travel farther to reach a truck. Every adjustment happens in front of you, on site, and lands in a written fixed price. Disposal of everything above the slab — full tonnage — is inside that number.
Doing the teardown yourself? A garage generates more debris than most homeowners expect. Our roll-off dumpsters handle self-demo debris, and our 20-yard is the usual call for a garage-size DIY project — mind the weight allowances on heavy material either way.

How a garage teardown runs

- Demo days. 1-2 days, 2-3 person crew for a 1-car, 2-3 days, 2-3 person crew for a 2-car — roof off, walls down in sections, everything loaded as it drops.
- Cleanup to slab level. Site swept, metal recycled, debris to licensed CT transfer stations. The written number is the invoice number.
