On the junk truck: furniture, mattresses and box springs ($50 mattress fee where a unit is too damaged or soiled to route through CT's free mattress-recycling program), appliances — refrigerant handled per EPA rules, $50 CFC fee on freon units — televisions and electronics, exercise equipment, general household junk, garage, basement, and attic contents, estate contents, hot tubs, sheds, and decks (demolition quoted separately). Tires ride at a $50 tire fee.
Not on the junk truck: concrete, brick, asphalt, dirt, soil, sod, rock, sand, gravel, tree limbs, and stumps. When an Easton job has real volume of those — a stone-wall demo, a patio tear-out — we drop a dumpster instead, sized with the correct weight allowance for heavy debris.
Hazardous waste (paint, motor oil, gasoline, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, asbestos, biohazard material, lithium batteries) never rides on the truck either. Residents use the TEaM (Trumbull-Easton-Monroe) Transfer Station at 101 Spring Hill Road in Trumbull — (203) 452-5167, open Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–2:45 PM and Saturday 7:00 AM–11:45 AM. The tickets that pay for disposal are sold somewhere else: Easton Town Hall, 225 Center Road, Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, and they have to be bought before you arrive at the station. Two stops, in two towns. A resident who comes up short on tickets can pay the difference by debit or credit card at the station — that covers a shortfall, not a plan.
Do the calendar math on those hours: the station is open Saturday morning until 11:45; Town Hall is not open Saturday at all. A Saturday run only works if the tickets were bought during the week. Decide on Saturday morning to finally clear the garage, and the ticket window has already closed.
Costs and exclusions
What the town does publish: demolition material needs demolition tickets at $12 per 125 pounds — roughly $0.10 a pound, which puts a 1,000-pound demo load near $96. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers run 3 tickets each for freon disposal, doors off refrigerators and freezers before they go. The station accepts no organic material — yard waste, brush — from Easton residents. Recycling needs no tickets. The general per-ticket price isn't published on the town website — Town Hall sells the tickets and has the current number. Easton residents can also skip the station entirely and contract with one of the licensed solid waste haulers serving the town. Details at eastonct.gov.
