Wilton is a 25-minute dispatch from our Stamford depot — Merritt Parkway to Route 7. The work is predominantly residential: estate cleanouts on the larger Kent Hills and Belden Hill properties, post-renovation hauls in the central Wilton Center and Cannondale blocks, and the downsizing dispatches that come with Wilton's longer-tenured ownership. The do-it-yourself question comes up more here than in most towns: Wilton runs its own transfer station on Mather Street, about 0.7 miles north of the Honey Hill Road intersection, with a resident sticker system and a per-item ticket schedule. We've read that schedule closely, because half of quoting Wilton honestly is knowing when a self-haul beats calling us — the math is further down this page.
The truck
We show up with a 20 cubic yard truck — bigger than the standard 15-17 cubic yard industry truck, so you can toss more for less. More volume per dispatch means fewer trips, lower aggregate cost on bigger jobs, and predictable sizing math when we tier the truck-load pricing. The two-man crew rides with the truck — we do the loading, you point at the pile.
Common Wilton junk removal calls
Kent Hills / Belden Hill estate cleanouts
Larger lots, longer-tenured residents, multi-generational accumulation. Multi-day operations.
Wilton Center / Cannondale renovation debris
Pulled cabinetry, fixtures, and flooring from mid-century residential renos.
Downsizing cleanouts
Wilton homes downsizing to smaller properties — the empty-nest pattern. See whole-home cleanouts for full-property scope.
Single-item appliance and mattress pickups
Minimum-tier dispatches for old fridges, mattresses, single pieces of furniture.
Pricing — $179 to $979 by truck-space used
Junk removal is priced by truck-space at the end of the job, not by item count. Thirteen tiers from $179 minimum (single-item or small-pile pickups) to $979 full truckload. Common reference points:
- $179 minimum — a single mattress, an old appliance, a small pile of junk by the curb
- $359 — quarter truck — typical garage cleanout or partial basement
- $559 — half truck — apartment-sized cleanout, single-room renovation debris
- $809 — three-quarter truck — single-family decluttering, large estate room
- $979 — full 20-yard truck — full-property cleanouts, whole-home work
We confirm the tier on site before the truck pulls away. No bait-and-switch up after the work starts.
All 13 truck-load tiers — Wilton
When loading the dumpster yourself isn’t the right call — small volume, awkward access, or you just want it gone today — we send a crew. Pricing runs by truck space used, not by item. Final pricing confirmed before removal begins.

On the junk truck: furniture, mattresses and box springs (condition rules below), appliances — refrigerant handled per EPA rules, $50 CFC fee on freon units — televisions and electronics, exercise equipment, general household junk, garage, basement, and attic contents, estate contents, hot tubs, sheds, and decks (demolition quoted separately). Tires ride at a $50 tire fee.
Not on the junk truck: concrete, brick, asphalt, dirt, soil, sod, rock, sand, gravel, tree limbs, and stumps. When a Wilton job has real volume of those — a stone-wall demo, a patio tear-out — we drop a dumpster instead, sized with the correct weight allowance for heavy debris.
Hazardous waste (paint, motor oil, gasoline, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, asbestos, biohazard material, lithium batteries) never rides on the truck either. Paint goes back to retailers free, year-round, under CT's Paint Stewardship Program; waste oil goes to AutoZone at 50 Cross Street in Norwalk. For the rest, we'll point you to the right channel on the phone.
Disposal rules in Wilton
The Wilton Transfer Station is on Mather Street, 0.7 miles north of the Honey Hill Road intersection — (203) 563-0152, open Monday–Thursday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM–noon. Two things decide whether it's useful to you.
The sticker. Since July 1, 2023, any residential vehicle bringing anything — solid waste, bulky waste, or even recycling alone — needs a current permit sticker, reissued each fiscal year, two per household: $40 first vehicle at age 64 and under, $20 second, $20 any vehicle at 65+. Stickers and disposal tickets ($4.50 each, $3.50 for residents 65+) both come from the Town Clerk at 238 Danbury Road, Mon–Fri 8:30–4:30 — tickets are not sold at the station.
The ticket schedule, condensed: solid waste, 1 ticket per 32-gallon bag. Recyclables free, except tires (1 ticket, rim off). Bulky waste and construction debris — couches, dressers, desks, headboards, damaged or soiled mattresses and box springs, lumber cut to 4-foot lengths — 4 tickets per unit. Passenger-vehicle load (2 cubic yards max), 10 tickets; pickup, cargo van, or trailer load (3 cubic yards max), 20. Scrap metal and electronics, free; anything with freon — AC units, refrigerators — 3 tickets, doors off refrigerators.
And the rule that decides most cleanout scenarios: all material must originate from a residential property in Wilton. Full details at wiltonct.gov.
Clean vs. soiled mattresses
Wilton takes a clean mattress or box spring free — no fee, no tickets — while a damaged or soiled one is bulky waste at 4 tickets. That's the same condition line Connecticut's statewide mattress recycling program draws: clean units recycle free at participating sites; anything wet, mildewed, soiled, heavily stained, bed-bug exposed, or heavily damaged gets rejected. Our $50 mattress fee exists for exactly this reason: condition determines whether a mattress recycles free or costs real disposal money as bulky waste, whoever hauls it.
Doing it yourself in Wilton
The honest math, from the town's own schedule: a single couch is bulky waste — 4 tickets, $18. A pickup-truck load caps at 3 cubic yards for 20 tickets, $90. No current sticker? Add $40 — a one-time couch run is really about $58, not $18. Our side of the ledger: $179 minimum, $359 for a quarter truckload — 5 cubic yards, more than the station allows in any single vehicle load.
DIY wins when all four are true: you own a truck, you hold a current sticker, the load is under 3 cubic yards, and you can carry it yourself. It stops winning with no truck, second-floor furniture, disassembly, a pile past 3 cubic yards — or material that didn't come from your own Wilton residence, which shuts out executors, landlords, and contractors entirely. And past roughly 5 cubic yards of steady material — a renovation, a full basement — a roll-off dumpster in Wilton beats repeat trips in either direction, ours or yours.

Demo work in Wilton
Junk removal and demolition go together. About a third of our Wilton dispatches involve some demo before the haul — kitchen cabinets coming out before the gut renovation, an old deck that needs to come down before the lumber gets hauled, a backyard shed that’s done its time. We do both in one job, one crew, one invoice.
Common Wilton combo jobs: kitchen demo + appliance haul, deck teardown + lumber removal, shed demolition + debris hauling, basement gut work with the debris pulled the same day. Demo work is quoted separately — pricing varies by scope — but we can schedule both on the same truck visit.
