We tear down sheds and haul every stick of them away — 8x10 garden sheds up through 16x20+ outbuildings, anywhere within about an hour of our Stamford or West Haven yards, which covers Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield, and Middlesex counties plus the lower New London shoreline and Westchester border towns. Small sheds start at $400, larger ones at $700, and the number you actually pay is fixed on site at a free walkthrough before anyone swings a bar.
Most shed calls sound the same on the phone: the shed came with the house, it's been sinking into the yard for a decade, and the door hasn't closed right since the first winter. The job itself is one of the cleanest in our demo lineup — one day, two people, and a level patch of ground where the eyesore used to be.
Skid, gravel, or slab — the foundation decides half the job
The walls come down the same way on every shed. What's underneath is what changes the quote and what your yard looks like after.
Skid-set sheds — the most common build in CT backyards — sit on pressure-treated 4x4 runners laid on grade. We strip the structure, then pull the skids themselves. They're usually half-rotted anyway. You're left with bare, plantable ground and maybe a few depressions to rake out.
Gravel pads are the easy case. Structure comes off, we rake the pad level, and you can either keep the gravel for the next shed or have us note the haul-out in the quote.
Poured slabs are the one to know about before you call: the slab stays. We don't cut, break, or haul concrete — same carve-out as our detached garage work, and for the same reason: broken slab is clean-fill material that belongs with a specialist hauler, not in our trucks. Plenty of homeowners keep the slab as a patio base or a pad for the replacement shed. If you want it gone, we'll point you toward the right kind of contractor while we handle everything above it.
Deck-block piers split the difference — the blocks almost always come out with the floor framing, and we'll confirm that on the walkthrough.
Before demo day: empty it
The starting prices assume an empty shed, and there's a practical reason beyond pricing: a shed full of paint cans, mower gas, and thirty years of garden chemicals is a different job from a shed full of nothing. Hazardous liquids can't ride in our trucks at all — paint, fuel, solvents need to go through your town's household-hazardous-waste program before we arrive.
Everything else — the broken mower, the bikes, the shelving, the bag pile — you can either clear yourself or have us do it as a junk-removal add-on. We'll quote the contents by truck volume at the same walkthrough where we quote the demo, so you see both numbers side by side and decide which parts of the carrying are worth your weekend.
How the day itself goes
A typical shed teardown, in order: salvage items you flagged come off first (doors, windows, hardware). Roofing gets stripped so the framing can drop clean. Walls come down in sections with saws and bars — hand demo, no machine ripping, which is why the flowerbed six feet away survives. Floor and foundation runners come up last. Everything gets loaded as we go rather than piled, so there's never a debris mountain sitting on your lawn.
Load-out goes in our own trucks to licensed CT transfer stations, with metal roofing and scrap steel pulled for recycling. Disposal is folded into the fixed price — there's no separate dump-fee line waiting on the invoice. 1 day, 2-person crew covers most sheds; a 16x20 with a loft might stretch to a second morning.

The two tiers above come straight from our canonical pricing data — the same source the demolition hub grid renders. $400 buys the simplest version of the small-shed job: empty structure, clear access, skid or gravel base. $700 does the same for the 12x16-and-up class.
What moves a shed quote above its floor, in rough order of how often we see it: contents still inside, second-story or loft framing, a spot the truck can't get near (every extra 50 feet of carry matters), partial collapse, and salvage requests that need careful disassembly. None of that is a surprise on the invoice — the walkthrough number is the contract, confirmed in writing before demo day is even booked.
If you'd rather swing the bar yourself, that's honestly a fine weekend project for a small shed — rent one of our roll-off dumpsters and take your time. Where we earn the fee is the mid-size-and-up teardowns, the rot cases, and every version of "I don't want to spend three weekends on this."

The scope rules, restated
Standalone structures only — a shed qualifies by definition, but the neighboring rules still apply: no interior demo, nothing attached to the house, and no asbestos handling. A few very old sheds carry asbestos-cement roof panels; if we spot suspect material at the walkthrough, we stop, decline that portion, and refer you to a licensed abatement contractor before any demo happens. Permits, where your town requires one for a shed, are yours to pull — we flag it, you confirm it, then we book.
