The question that decides everything about your job isn't the tub's size — it's where the tub lives. That's why there are two tiers, and this page explains both.
Weight is the job. Access is the price.
An empty 6-person tub still weighs several hundred pounds, distributed in the least carryable shape ever designed. Between it and our truck: a gate that's narrower than the tub, a slope, a stone retaining wall, and a flowerbed you'd like to keep. This is why hot tub removal is a demolition service and not a furniture move.
Our standard approach is cut-down in place: shell and cabinet sawed into sections right where the tub sits, sections walked out by hand, nothing dragged across the lawn. It's faster than rigging, safer than heroics, and it's how a tub leaves a fenced backyard without the fence coming with it. The walkthrough is mostly an access survey — we're pacing your gate width and path before we ever look at the tub itself.
The plumbing gets a check too: pumps drained, lines cleared, so nothing rides to the transfer station sloshing.
The sunken-tub tier, explained
The tubs that earn the second tier are the built-in ones — dropped into a deck with the surface flush, framed into a corner platform, or sunk into a vault below grade. Before any cutting starts, the tub has to be freed: deck boards up, framing released, sometimes working down inside the vault the original installer left exactly zero clearance around.
That access carpentry is the entire difference between $400 and $700 as starting points. What happens to the opened-up decking is your choice, quoted clearly: we can remove just enough to extract the tub and leave the rest for your carpenter to patch, or take the whole platform out while we're in there — which shades into deck removal and often makes more sense than patching around a tub-shaped hole.

Drain and disconnect: the two-step before demo
Water first. We pump the tub as part of the job, routed somewhere on your property that isn't a foundation, a septic field, or the neighbor's koi pond. A freshly dead tub drains in minutes; a two-year swamp takes longer and we'd rather know in advance.
Power second, and properly. Full-size tubs run on a dedicated 240V circuit, and that circuit gets disconnected at the source by a licensed electrician before we cut — verified, not assumed. We don't do electrical work and won't start a cut-down on a tub whose feed status is a guess. The little plug-in models are the exception: pull the plug, show us the cord, done. Gas-heated tubs (rare, but they exist in older installs) add a plumber's disconnect to the same checklist.

Both starting prices above render live from the same pricing data as the demolition hub — this page can't drift from the master list because it has no numbers of its own. $400 covers the on-grade tub on a pad with a reasonable path out. $700 covers the freed-before-cut class.
Between floor and final number, the walkthrough weighs: path length and pinch points, structure that has to open, how much of that structure you want gone permanently, and anything unusual living in the cabinet (we've met wasps' nests with strong opinions). From eyesore to open corner in five steps
- Call (203) 219-8855 or send the demolition quote form. On-grade or built-in, roughly how far from the driveway, and whether it still holds water. A photo of the tub and one of the path tell us most of it.
- Walkthrough. Access paced, tier confirmed, decking decisions made if it's a built-in, fixed price in writing.
- Your electrician disconnects. One visit, before demo day. Plug-ins skip this step.
- Removal day. Half-day, 2-person crew on grade, half-day to 1 day, 2-person crew for built-ins: drain, cut, carry, load.
- Site check and haul-out. Pad swept, sections to licensed CT transfer stations, frame and equipment metal recycled. Price you approved is the price you pay.
Where this service starts and stops
The tub, its cabinet, its equipment pack, and — when quoted — the structure immediately around it. We don't do electrical or plumbing disconnects (licensed trades, verified before we start), we don't do interior demo if your tub lives in a finished room addition (that's the house envelope — GC territory, same rule as sunrooms), and in-ground concrete spas are pool-contractor work, not ours.
