Yonkers puts the street question with its engineers, not its sanitation office. If the box has to sit in the roadway or hang over a sidewalk, the City wants a permit from the Department of Engineering before it lands. A driveway drop keeps you out of that process entirely, so the first thing we ask a Yonkers customer is where the container can physically go.
The Saw Mill River Road center has a hard line on debris
The City runs its own Recycling Center at 735 Saw Mill River Road (hours in the FAQ). It's a real option for a homeowner with a car full of recycling or a dead appliance. It's not an option for renovation waste. The posted rules say no roofing materials and no construction and demolition debris, period.
The center also screens who comes through the gate. It's for Yonkers residents in buildings of six families or fewer, in a personal car or pickup. Rented vehicles and commercial vehicles are turned away, and so is anything that appears to be a contractor's work vehicle. So the usual workaround of renting a van and making a few runs doesn't work here.
Curbside rules that push debris off the street
Regular trash pickup won't take construction material, rocks or dirt. Non-metal bulk is limited to one item a week, set out on your second collection day (Thursday or Friday), and the list covers mattresses, couches, tables and rugs cut and tied in 3-foot lengths. One sofa a week is fine for a slow purge. It doesn't empty a house.
Metal and appliances are by appointment, or you can drive them to the center. The City pulls the Freon from air conditioners there at no charge, which is a better route for an old window unit than a rented container.
If you live in a building with more than six units, the Sanitation Division sends bulk questions to your super, landlord or management company. Ask them before you book anything for the curb.
Sizing it
For a bedroom or garage cleanout, a 10-yard is usually plenty. A bathroom or kitchen tear-out is more often a 15 or a 20. Tell the office what's coming out and we'll match the size to it.

What customers in Yonkers are saying
A “Great company to work with. Justin and his crew are great to work with they are on time and show up when I need them. Clean and responsible.”
Y “Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.”
Y “Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.”
