Booking. There’s no online checkout in New York. Send a lock-in request and the price is held. Our office calls you during business hours (Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM) to confirm your order and take payment by phone. Credit card only. Your dumpster is booked once payment is confirmed.

Hastings answers the permit question in one sentence. The Building Department's FAQ says: "If you can place the dumpster on your property or driveway, then no permit is necessary." Put it on the street and you need a dumpster permit from the Building Department. That's the first thing to settle before a delivery date.
Driveway or street
If there's room off the road, the paperwork question goes away. If the only level spot is the curb, start the Building Department's dumpster permit before you book, so it's in hand when the container shows up. When you call, tell us where the box is going, and whether the permit is done.
The sofa can wait for trash day
The Village made bulk easier. Per its waste and recycling page, non-metal bulk trash such as a sofa "is picked up on your regular trash collection day; appointments are no longer needed." Metal bulk, like a fridge or an air conditioner, goes out on Fridays by appointment, booked through the Department of Public Works. The booking cutoff is in the FAQ.
If you're clearing one room, that may be all you need, and we'd say use it. A rental makes sense when the job outgrows a trash day.
What the DPW won't accept
The Village FAQ doesn't hedge: asked whether it accepts "construction material, bricks, concrete, rocks," the answer is "No." The same FAQ says only compost and recycling can be brought down by the DPW garage.
There's one drop-off option for heavier household loads: on the first Saturday of each month the Village takes garbage or bulk items at the recycling center on Southside Avenue, across from the Public Works garage. Times are in the FAQ. Plaster, brick and old concrete steps still need another route, and a container on the driveway is one.
Which size
Tell us before you load brick or concrete: heavy material fills a box by weight long before it fills it by volume, and that changes the size we'd recommend. Furniture, boxes and carpet from a whole-house cleanout are the opposite, bulky and light, and a 15 or 20 gives them room.

The Village says a vehicle is on hand to receive garbage or bulk items at the recycling center on Southside Avenue from 8 am to noon on the first Saturday of every month. The recycling and food-scrap dumpsters there are open dawn to dusk daily. The Village's FAQ lists construction material, bricks, concrete and rocks as not accepted.
How far ahead do I book a metal or electronics pickup?
Metal bulk, like a refrigerator or an air conditioner, is picked up on Fridays by appointment, booked online through the Department of Public Works page. The DPW's deadline to schedule is 12PM the day before.
