These notes cover the Town of Greenburgh's own rules. Its Town pages don't spell out which addresses Town sanitation serves, and villages such as Ardsley, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington and Tarrytown publish pickup rules of their own. If your street is in one of those villages, go by the village's page, not this one.
A box in a Town road
The Town treats a "Dumpster in the street" as work in the Town right of way. That takes a Street Opening Permit, also called a Right of Way (ROW) Permit, from the Engineering Department. The Town's Public Works Code Enforcement FAQ lists what the application needs: a certificate of liability insurance and a sketch or plan of the work, along with a fee and a refundable deposit (both in the FAQ below). It's the same permit the Town lists for a driveway repave or a sewer connection.
Set the container in your own driveway and the right-of-way permit doesn't come into it.
Sheetrock, lumber and the Town's line
The Bureau of Sanitation names what it won't take: "The Town does not collect construction debris, such as sheetrock, lumber, insulation," along with porcelain toilets, sinks, bathtubs and tile. Its sanitation FAQ adds that construction debris, cement included, "must be removed by a private carter or the contractor that did the work."
So a bathroom gut or a basement finish needs its own way out. If your contractor isn't hauling the debris, a roll-off on the driveway is that way out.
Bulk pickup takes an appointment
Bulky trash isn't a put-it-at-the-curb affair here. The Town runs bulk and metal pickups by appointment only, with metal and non-metal items on different days, and each pickup is capped at a few items. The Town also warns that slots per week are limited and demand is high. That works for a sofa and a dryer. For a garage cleanout with forty things in it, a container is the faster route. Booking details are in the FAQ.
Sizing it
Renovation debris is heavy for its size: drywall, tile, old fixtures. A 10-yard handles a single bathroom. A kitchen tear-out with cabinets tends to need the 15. A whole-floor job or a full house of contents is 20-yard work.

What customers in Greenburgh are saying
Y “Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.”
Y “Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.”
Y “It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.”
