Peekskill's own paperwork answers the first question most people ask about a container. The City's demolition permit requirements put it in one line: dumpsters are allowed on private property, and if the sidewalk or street gets used, a permit has to be in hand before work starts.
When the box can't fit on your lot
The permit that covers it is the street and sidewalk obstruction permit, listed on the City's Permits & Forms page and issued by the Department of Public Works. It runs one month. It takes a fee, a deposit and proof of liability insurance naming the City, and the FAQ has the numbers. We plan Peekskill drops for private property first. If the driveway is too tight or too steep, say so when you book: Grizzly confirms the permit paperwork, including the insurance the City asks for, before any street placement.
What the City's bulk collection won't carry
Peekskill picks up residential bulk trash in five months of the year: March, April, July, September and December. Each set-out is capped at 1.5 cubic yards. Construction and renovation debris of any kind is on the prohibited list. Appliances and metal go out separately from the rest, items with Freon aren't collected at the curb, and mattresses have to be sealed in plastic.
Even a 10-yard container, the smallest size, holds several times that bulk cap. That's the practical line in Peekskill: one room of old furniture can wait for a bulk month, but a stripped bathroom or a basement full of paneling and carpet can't go out at the curb at all.
The Saturday garage
The 2026 City Services brochure describes a Saturday-morning drop-off at the City Garage for residents with a punch card. It allows only standard-size vehicles and small pickups, and it turns away the same remodel material the curb does: sheetrock, flooring, shingles, toilets, sinks, cabinets. Downtown businesses in the Business Improvement District follow separate rules. The brochure says bulk there goes by appointment only, with no construction debris.

The permit is good for one month from its date, and it calls for $300,000 in public liability coverage with the City of Peekskill listed as additional insured. When can I use the Saturday drop-off at the City Garage?
Per the City's 2026 services brochure, the City Garage at 1003 Lower South Street is open every Saturday from 9 AM to 12 noon, for Peekskill residents only. You need a punch card: $37 for five punches, sold at the Department of Public Works office at City Hall, cash or check. Renovation material such as sheetrock, flooring, concrete, asphalt, roof shingles, toilets, sinks and kitchen cabinets is not accepted.
What does the City charge for a special pickup?
The brochure lists $26.00 per mattress, $44.00 per refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner (refrigerator and freezer doors must come off), and a $72.00 minimum for a special trash pickup, within the size limit the brochure sets. Special services are paid ahead and approved by the DPW.
