Buchanan keeps its debris rule short. The Village's Highway Department page still links a sanitation rules sheet, scanned in 2013, that says if you're having work done on your home or property, the contractor is responsible for removing all of the debris.
A job with a contractor
That puts the debris question on whoever does the work. A roll-off on the driveway is one way to handle it. The contractor fills it as the job goes, and the debris leaves in one haul when the work is done. If you're the one swinging the hammer, the sheet doesn't spell out your options, so ask the Highway Department before you plan on the curb.
How bulk week works
Buchanan runs bulk on a calendar, and it splits the week by material. On the Village calendar, bulk days are marked "no metal". The May 2026 newsletter says metal goes out only on the Thursday of bulk week. Computer and television screens are collected on the Friday of bulk week in both the Upper and Lower Village.
For a household cleanout, sort as you go. Metal and screens get the Village's pickups on their own days, and the rest of the volume goes in the box. For an attic or a garage, the 10-yard size is usually plenty.
Before work starts
The Village's Building Department asks residents to contact it before starting any work on their property. Its permit requirements sheet sets a base fee for smaller projects, listed in the FAQ with the inspectors' numbers.
