In the Town of Cortlandt, bulk trash rides one of three routes and goes out on Fridays. That schedule covers a recliner or an old desk. It doesn't cover a gut job, and the Town's 2026 Sanitation Guide says so in capital letters: construction debris will not be accepted.

Reading the Friday bulk rules

The guide's own test for a bulk pile is whether it would fit in the back of a pickup truck. Bigger piles may cost extra. Items have to be curbside by early morning on pickup day and can't go out more than two days ahead. Railroad ties, pianos, logs, concrete and C&D are all left behind.

Metal is a different story. Washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, file cabinets and even aluminum siding are on the accepted list, as long as you separate the metal from everything else. Mattresses and box springs must be sealed in plastic bags. Fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers need a paid special pickup and a sticker from the Sanitation Division. The FAQ has the fees.

Where a container fits in

So the Town's trucks will haul away the metal and the furniture, a pickup-bed at a time. What's left after a kitchen tear-out or a re-roof (sheetrock, shingles, broken tile, framing) has nowhere to go at the curb. A 15-yard box takes a typical bathroom or small kitchen; a 20-yard box suits a full floor or a roof. If the drive is long and narrow, a photo of it helps us check the fit before delivery.

Road placement

The guide is short on this point: any work in the Town right-of-way needs a permit, handled through the Town's main number. The Highway Division sits in Verplanck. We didn't find a Town permit aimed at dumpsters specifically, so call before you count on the road. Contacts are in the FAQ.

E-waste goes to Buchanan

Electronics don't go in the dumpster or the bulk pile. The Town sends residents to a drop-off run at a Village of Buchanan site on Westchester Avenue, open on weekdays. It stopped taking Freon items. Details in the FAQ.

What customers in Cortlandt are saying

  • Y
“Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.”

“Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.”

“It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.”
