Tarrytown folds the dumpster permit into its DPW Street Permit Application, the same form used for street openings and curb cuts. Tick the DUMPSTER box, and the Superintendent of Public Works signs off. The charge runs by the day and by the parking space, with a deposit and insurance that names the Village as additional insured. Figures are in the FAQ.
Where the Village lets a box sit
The form spells out placement in item 15: "Dumpsters shall be equipped with flashing lights attached thereto or must have barricades with flashing lights." The box can't go in a crosswalk, on a curve, at the crest of a hill, or anywhere sight distance is limited, and it has to be placed so drivers and people on foot can see past it. And: "Dumpsters shall be removed immediately when full."
On a steep or curving street, that list can rule the curb out entirely. Look at the spot before you book. If the driveway works, that's where we'd put it; the form covers work in the Village right-of-way. For a street spot, Grizzly confirms the permit paperwork, insurance included, before the box goes down.
Bulk pickup is Friday, by appointment
According to the Village's 2026 DPW services packet, bulk is collected from residents on Fridays by appointment only, with a midweek cutoff. Mattresses have to be bagged in plastic first. Metal items and appliances also go curbside by appointment, but they must be all metal, free of fabric, wood and fluids. The packet is direct about the rest: "CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS IS PROHIBITED FROM COLLECTION."
E-waste doesn't go curbside at all. There's a drop-off container at the DPW Facility on Division Street; hours are in the FAQ. Food scraps have their own drop-off on Green St, by the Losee Park ballfield.
When a container is the answer
A few pieces of furniture fit the Friday pickup. A remodel doesn't, since the Village won't take construction debris. That's the job for a rented box. Keep the "removed immediately when full" rule in mind if it's on the street: a size that holds the whole job means one pickup, not a scramble. A 15 covers most kitchens; go 20 if walls or floors are coming out too.

What customers in Tarrytown are saying
Y “Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.”
Y “Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.”
Y “It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.”
