New Rochelle treats a roll-off in the street like any other work in the public right-of-way. The City's Public Works Permit requirements list "temporary placing of roll-off containers in the right of way" next to street openings and sidewalk work. The Bureau of Engineering runs it.

Plan the permit before the delivery date

The permit process has a few steps, and the City won't compress them. You turn in the application with a drawing of where the container goes and your insurance information. A permit engineer reviews it and decides the deposit or fee and any conditions. And no permit is issued the same day it's requested.

That last rule matters for timing. If the box has to go on the street, get the paperwork moving first, then call us with a delivery date. If it fits in the driveway, none of this applies. Phone numbers and hours are in the FAQ.

The City won't take renovation material

New Rochelle's 2026 DPW guide says construction and demolition materials "of any kind must be disposed of privately." The bulk guidelines also keep construction material, rocks and dirt out of regular pickup. There's no public drop-off to fall back on either: the Sanitation office on Beechwood Avenue is marked "no public access."

The City does post a courtesy list of private construction debris facilities, and says it's information only, not an endorsement. If you'd rather haul it yourself, that's where to start. If you'd rather not, that's what the container is for.

Things the City still handles

Mattresses and box springs go out on your normal collection day, each one sealed in a plastic mattress bag and taped. Washers, dryers, stoves and other metal go out on Thursdays by appointment. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners also need a Freon sticker from the City Clerk first. It's cheaper to use the City for a single appliance than to fill a box around it.

Which size

Most single-room jobs fit a 10 or 15. A full renovation, or a house being emptied for a sale, is where the 20 earns its space.

“Went very well. Got a heads up call before they arrived on time and everything went very fast and carefully at a great price. Only reason I did not give five stars was because the truck leaked some oil on the apron of our driveway!”

New Rochelle dumpster rental FAQs

Can I get a New Rochelle street permit the same day I book a dumpster?

No. The City says no Public Works Permits are issued on the same day. You return the application with a drawing and your insurance information, and the permit engineer sets the deposit or fee and any conditions. The Bureau of Engineering is at (914) 654-2131; Public Works main is (914) 654-2130. City Hall hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

What does it cost to get rid of a refrigerator or air conditioner in New Rochelle?

Anything with Freon needs a permit sticker from the City Clerk's Office, $25 each, before the City will schedule the pickup. Appliances and metal are collected on Thursdays by appointment, booked with the Bureau of Sanitation before noon on the Tuesday before. There's no appliance pickup during holiday weeks.

When do things have to be at the curb?

Per the City's bulk guidelines, by 7:00 AM on your collection day, and by 6:00 AM between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

How fast can a dumpster get to New Rochelle?

Next-day delivery or service is standard. Same-day is sometimes possible. Call before 10 AM to check. (203) 219-8855.

Why is New Rochelle pricing $100 higher than Connecticut?

Licensed and insured in Connecticut. Westchester service is performed by licensed, insured local partners, coordinated by Grizzly. The $100 partner-service rate covers that. The weight allowance, rental window and overage rates are the same as in Connecticut.
