Junk removal in Hartford County by Grizzly Junk Pros

Junk removal in Avon is a crew job: we bring a 20-yard truck and two people, you point at what goes, and the price is confirmed before anything is loaded. Avon houses are large, and more to the point they have three-car garages and full basements — both of which hold considerably more than the living space and both of which get opened last. That shapes what a typical Avon dispatch looks like more than anything else does — the sizes we send, the number of visits, and whether a can on the driveway makes more sense than a second truck run. Everything below is the detail: the tiers, what we take, what we don't, and where Avon's own municipal disposal options sit if you'd rather haul it yourself.

What Avon jobs tend to look like

Avon houses are large, and more to the point they have three-car garages and full basements — both of which hold considerably more than the living space and both of which get opened last. Avon Center, Old Farms, Cider Brook and Avon Park North all follow that pattern, with long but usable driveways, so volume rather than access sets the day. Talcott Notch and the Heublein Tower base bring steeper, more wooded approaches.

What arrives

A 20 cubic yard truck and a two-man crew. The industry standard is 15 to 17 yards; ours is bigger, which matters in a way that sounds like marketing until you're on the third trip with somebody else's truck. More capacity per visit means fewer visits, and fewer visits is where the cost actually comes down on a large job. You point; we carry. Nobody expects you to help lift anything.

Same-day junk removal in Avon

Same-day service when booked before 11 AM and a truck is available; next-day is standard.

In practice that means Avon is usually reachable on the day’s routes when the call lands early and a truck has room left in it. After the cutoff, or on mornings the trucks go out full, the honest answer is next-day — and we say so on the phone rather than overbook. Either way you get a real arrival window at booking, not a callback. Hartford County dispatch runs Mon–Sat 8 AM – 4 PM.

Common Avon junk removal calls

Three-car garage clear-outs

Avon houses hold more in the garage than most hold in a spare room. Old Farms, Cider Brook and Avon Park North especially.

Full-basement purges

The other place the volume hides, and the one that gets opened last on a whole-house job.

Talcott Notch approaches

Steeper, more wooded driveways where the same volume takes longer to move.

Pricing, and how the tiers work

Thirteen steps between $179 and $979, measured as a share of the truck rather than as a count of items. A room full of light bulky furniture and a room full of dense boxes can price the same, because the truck doesn't care which one it is.

  • $179 minimum — a single mattress, an old appliance, a small pile of junk by the curb
  • $359 — quarter truck — typical garage cleanout or partial basement
  • $559 — half truck — apartment-sized cleanout, single-room renovation debris
  • $809 — three-quarter truck — single-family decluttering, large estate room
  • $979 — full 20-yard truck — full-property cleanouts, whole-home work

Nothing gets loaded before you have the tier. That ordering is deliberate — a price agreed after the truck is full isn't really a price.

What Avon customers say

  • Y
Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.

Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.

It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.

Demo work in Avon

A lot of what people call junk removal starts with something that has to come apart first. A deck that's rotted through, a shed nobody has opened in a decade, kitchen cabinets standing between a contractor and a start date. Taking it down and hauling it away is the same visit for us, and it saves you coordinating two companies around one driveway.

The pattern repeats: cabinets out then appliances gone, deck down then lumber loaded, shed dismantled then the slab swept. Demolition is quoted on its own because scope varies far more than volume does — but it lands on the same truck, the same day, and the same invoice.

Junk removal FAQs — Avon

Can a contractor take my debris to the Avon transfer station?
No. Avon's rule is explicit: 'No non-residential establishments shall have access.' If a contractor is doing the work, the debris is theirs to handle or ours to haul — the town facility isn't an option for them.
How do I get an Avon landfill permit?
Through the Collector of Revenue rather than at the gate. The station is at 281 Huckleberry Hill Road, open Tuesday and Friday 7:30am to 2:30pm and Saturday 7:30am to 1:00pm, closed legal holidays, Good Friday and the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Is it cheaper to self-haul in Avon?
For a car load, yes. For a garage, the arithmetic changes fast — three trips in a sedan on a Tuesday morning against one crew visit that also carries it out of the garage for you. We'll tell you which side of that line you're on.
Do I need a permit to use the Avon transfer station?
Yes — Avon requires a resident permit for station access, per the town's posted rules. Factor the permit into any DIY disposal math; our trucks don't need one because we don't use the resident line.
When is the Avon transfer station open?
The town posts Tuesday AND Friday: 7:30am to 2:30pm; Saturday: 7:30am to 1:00pm. ‘Closed legal holidays, Good Friday and Friday following Thanksgiving.’. Holiday closures apply — check the town's page before you load, or skip the trip entirely and let the can take the schedule problem off your plate.
What's the cheapest junk removal job you'll take in Avon?
Our minimum charge is $179 — covers a single mattress, an old appliance, a small pile of junk by the curb. Anything that fits in less than 1/8 of our truck. For very small jobs, that's the floor. Larger jobs scale up by truck-space used, all the way to $979 for a full 20-cubic-yard load.
What can't go in your trucks?
Hazardous waste — paint, motor oil, gasoline, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, asbestos, biohazardous material. Lithium and other batteries. CT and NY both run household hazardous-waste programs through most municipalities; we'll point you to the right channel for anything we can't take. Refrigerators, freezers, ACs, and dehumidifiers are fine, but the refrigerant has to be removed (or already removed) per EPA rules — we can document this on pickup.
Do I need to be home for the pickup?
Not always — depends on the job. For interior cleanouts where the crew needs access through the house, yes. For driveway, garage, or yard pickups where items are already accessible, often no — we coordinate on the call. Estate cleanouts and tenant-out scenarios where the family or property manager isn't on-site work fine if access and scope are pre-confirmed.
How fast can you come to Avon?
Same-day before 11 AM is the standard target for in-area dispatch. After 11 AM, next-day is realistic. Same-day after 11 AM or on weekends is sometimes possible if the schedule allows — call (203) 219-8855, Mon–Fri 8 AM – 4 PM live, AI after-hours and weekends, to ask.
