The Town of North Castle has an item-by-item recycling guide, and two of its entries settle most renovation questions. Under wood and lumber, the Town calls it construction debris that the carter won't accept for bulk pickup: "It must be taken away by your contractor." Under concrete blocks, it says block is construction material that "cannot be placed with your waste for pickup."
If you're doing the work yourself, you're the contractor in that sentence. A roll-off is one straightforward way to do that.
Bulk pickup, and its limits
For household items, the Town's bulk pickup rules cap the width of what you put out, set a morning deadline, limit how early it can sit at the curb, and skip holiday weeks. You arrange it with the Town's carter. A refrigerator can't go out at the curb at all. The specifics are in the FAQ.
Electronics have changed too. The Town's recycling page says its monthly e-waste collection was discontinued, and residents now bring e-waste to the County's facility. The County's H-MRF page has its hours and appointment rules, and notes North Castle residents may be charged a fee.
Containers and Town roads
We didn't find a dumpster or container permit on the Highway Department page or in the Town's building applications. The street opening requirements are for work that opens a road, and they're strict: insurance naming the Town, a deposit by the square foot, and doubled fees if you start early. If a container has to go anywhere but your own property, talk to Highway before the delivery date.
Picking a size: block and concrete are heavy for their size. A patio or wall removal often fits a smaller container than you'd guess, while a lighter, bulkier load like old cabinets and trim needs more room.

What customers in North Castle are saying
Y “Spectacular service, even during Covid! First, a human answered their phone immediately and was clear and courteous. How rare these days! I got an appointment for next day! As promised, received a call that crew was on its way. My mother gave me last minute permission to move a fridge, not part of original request. So I had to tell the poor guys upon arrival that there was a surprise fridge move, two in fact, one removed, one moved within house. Crew didn't flinch. Then one fridge move required its doors AND house door to come off, which they achieved with impressive skill. I'm a manager in my work life and can say their professionalism was superb. Also, important for environment, the company claims to recycle materials. A+ on every level.”
Y “Amazing experience! I would definitely hire them again! Every interaction with this company, from setting up the appointment with Justin, and then having to move it up, because my long distance home movers moved up their delivery day at the last minute, and to the appointment itself, has been a wonderful, and positive experience. When we had to change my delivery window at the last minute, Justin was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And the amazing movers, Eric and Mike, "Big Mike", were so wonderful, professional, helpful, kind, and did excellent work.”
Y “It's spring cleaning time! Who am I going to call? the same great company I called 3 times before...grizzly junk pros! I have found these guys to be experts in moving large bulky items. They are hard workers, honest, fair and extremely efficient. I won't take a chance on any other company because I know what to expect from this one. They've done my cellar, things inside the house and now will call them for cleaning out the attic. The areas I've called them for aren't easy to maneuver in...amazing how they adapt to the job at hand.”
North Castle dumpster rental FAQs
What are North Castle's rules for bulk items at the curb?
Per the Town, bulk and large items can't be wider than 4 feet, must be at the curb by 7 AM, and can't go out earlier than 3 days before your pickup day. There's no pickup during holiday weeks, and you call the Town's carter first to set it up. Refrigerators can't go to the curb at all because of the Freon.

The Highway Department's requirements: a certificate of insurance naming the Town, with general liability of $1,000,000 each occurrence; a $200 check; a deposit of $6 per square foot, $1,200 minimum for 200 square feet; and a Westchester license. Fees double if work starts before the permit is issued, and the bond is held six months after restoration.
