Mount Kisco is specific about containers on public property, and it puts a price on it. If the box sits on a driveway, none of that applies. If it has to go in the street or another public spot, the Building Department is your first call.
The public-property fee
The Building Department's fee schedule, dated June 2026, groups dumpsters with trailers and scaffolds under parking on public property. There's an application fee, a deposit and separate parking fees through the Tax Office. All of it is in the FAQ. Apply at the Building Department in Village Hall on Main Street before you pick a delivery date, so the box isn't waiting on paperwork.
Bulk pickup has a short season
The Highway Department runs bulk pickup on a tight schedule, laid out in its bulk pick-up rules. It's by appointment, only part of the year, only on Mondays, and each residential property gets one clean-up a year. Heavy items and mattresses need a sticker or a bag bought ahead of time. Construction materials aren't allowed at all.
That works for a spring clear-out of a few pieces. It doesn't work for an estate cleanout in November, a second purge in the same year, or anything that came off a wall or a floor. That's where a rental comes in.
Bigger projects
The same fee schedule covers demolition permits and street opening permits, with figures in the FAQ. If you're taking down a garage or gutting a house, sort out the demolition permit, then choose the box. Dense debris like plaster and tile fills a container by weight long before it fills it by volume, so a smaller size often fits that kind of job.
