What Trumbull properties tend to hold
Trumbull is one of the more predictable estate towns we work in, which matters more than it sounds — it means the number we give after a walkthrough is usually the number. Long Hill, Nichols, Tashua, Daniels Farm and the Trumbull Center blocks are post-war and later single-family housing with attached garages and full basements. Volume is consistent, driveways take a full-size truck without argument, and the loads come out in a rhythm. The Hawley Lane and White Plains Road corridors bring the occasional condo or over-shop unit where the access conversation is different, but they're the exception rather than the pattern here.
We work across Long Hill, Nichols, Tashua, Daniels Farm and Trumbull Center, in a town of about 36,800.
What actually happens, in order
- Someone walks it. In person, or on video if you're not in the state. No number goes out before this.
- You get it in writing. Load count, days, what's included, what isn't.
- The crew sorts as it goes. Room by room. Papers, photographs, anything from a safe, jewellery, service medals, anything with an account number — those come out and sit on a table for you, not on the truck. We set the bar low deliberately: if it's arguable, it's set aside.
- Donations get routed. Usable furniture and household goods can go to a charity partner rather than a transfer station. Same labour cost, better outcome, receipts where the charity issues them.
- We finish the property, not the day. Two to four days is typical for a full house. The same crew comes back each morning so nobody re-explains the basement.
If there's a closing or a listing date, say so at step one and we schedule backwards from it.
Cost, and why it's a range until we've seen it
The ladder is fixed and public:
- Minimum Load — $179. A few small items: bags, boxes, or one small piece of furniture
- 1/4 Truckload (~5 yd³) — $359. Small bedroom contents, or a few bulky items
- 1/2 Truckload (~10 yd³) — $559. Small apartment contents or several large furniture items
- Full Truckload (~20 yd³) — $979. Full home cleanout or major renovation debris
The load count is not, and that's the honest part. Most estates are multiple loads over multiple days — the living space comes out fast, then the attic, basement and garage turn out to be the actual job. We don't publish a flat estate price because we'd have to pad it to be safe, and you'd be paying for our uncertainty. Walkthrough, count, written number. On the larger properties, a 20-yard can at $647 parked on the driveway runs alongside the crew and takes the bulky material directly.
Managing this from out of state
You do not need to fly in for a cleanout. Most of the executors we work with don't.
The walkthrough happens on video or gets documented in photographs, whichever suits you. The quote comes by email in writing. Access gets arranged with whoever has the key — an agent, an attorney, a family friend, a neighbour. Nothing gets thrown away without you having seen the set-aside pile, and payment comes after the job rather than before it. The invoice lists what left the property and where it went, which is usually what the probate file needs anyway.
