Estate Cleanout in Shelton, CT
Executor-led cleanouts, sorted before they're hauled. Fairfield County.

Clearing a family property in Shelton usually happens on someone else's schedule: a closing date, a probate deadline, a sibling flying in for one weekend. That timeline is the thing we plan around. We can work across several days, hold the same crew on the job so you're not re-explaining the house every morning, and coordinate with an agent or attorney directly if that's easier than routing everything through you.

What Shelton properties tend to hold
Shelton spans a wide range and the terrain is the complicating factor. Huntington, White Hills and Long Hill include hillside properties where the route from the door to the street runs through steps or a retaining wall, and stairs change crew time far more than they change load count. Pine Rock Park and Riverview are denser and flatter. Downtown Shelton brings some multi-family and over-shop units. The newer subdivisions out toward White Hills have the garages, the finished basements and the volume, but also the driveways to handle it. We look at the grade on the walkthrough, not just the rooms.
We work across Downtown Shelton, Huntington, White Hills, Pine Rock Park and Long Hill, in a town of about 41,000.
The order things happen in
Nobody quotes a house they haven't seen. That's the first rule and it exists because phone estimates on estates are wrong in one direction — low — and a number that doubles on day two is worse than no number at all. In person, or on video if you're managing this remotely.
Then the sort. This is the part that separates estate work from a big junk haul. The crew takes one room at a time and pulls out anything that might warrant a decision instead of loading it: papers, photographs, whatever is in a safe or a lockbox, jewellery, service medals, anything printed with an account number. That goes on a table. We are not valuers, and because we are not, the threshold for setting something aside is deliberately low — a maybe is enough.
Then the routing. Usable furniture and household goods can go to a charity partner rather than a transfer station. The labour is identical so the price is identical; the difference is where the things end up, and the receipts where a charity issues them.
Then, usually, the next day. Full properties run two to four working days with the same crew across all of them. Give us the closing or listing date at the walkthrough and we build the schedule backwards from it rather than discovering the deadline halfway through.
Cost, and why it's a range until we've seen it
The ladder is fixed and public:
- Minimum Load — $179. A few small items: bags, boxes, or one small piece of furniture
- 1/4 Truckload (~5 yd³) — $359. Small bedroom contents, or a few bulky items
- 1/2 Truckload (~10 yd³) — $559. Small apartment contents or several large furniture items
- Full Truckload (~20 yd³) — $979. Full home cleanout or major renovation debris
The load count is not, and that's the honest part. Most estates are multiple loads over multiple days — the living space comes out fast, then the attic, basement and garage turn out to be the actual job. We don't publish a flat estate price because we'd have to pad it to be safe, and you'd be paying for our uncertainty. Walkthrough, count, written number. On the larger properties, a 20-yard can at $647 parked on the driveway runs alongside the crew and takes the bulky material directly.
Out-of-state executors
This comes up constantly, so it's worth being plain about it: you can run this entire job from another state.
- Seeing the property: live video walkthrough, or a photo set if that's easier to share with siblings.
- The quote: in writing, by email, with the load count and the day count on it.
- Access: we work with the agent, the attorney, or whoever holds the key.
- The set-aside pile: photographed before anything leaves, so you decide from wherever you are.
- Payment: after the work. The invoice itemises what was hauled and where it went.
