Estate Cleanout in Old Saybrook, CT
Executor-led cleanouts, sorted before they're hauled. Middlesex County.

Most people who call us about an estate in Old Saybrook are doing it from somewhere else. A parent has died, the house has to be emptied before it can be listed or transferred, and the person responsible is an executor working through a to-do list written by a probate court. We do this work the way that situation actually needs it done: a walkthrough first, a written number before anything moves, and a crew that sorts before it hauls.

What Old Saybrook properties tend to hold
Old Saybrook has a high share of older properties held by one family for generations, and estate volume here regularly exceeds what the house footprint suggests — a modest shore house can hold sixty years of furniture that simply never left. Fenwick, Saybrook Point, Cornfield Point, Knollwood, Chalker Beach and Saybrook Manor are shore-adjacent, with approaches that range from fine to genuinely tight. Old Saybrook Center and Indian Town are more conventional. The seasonal-property pattern matters: a house used part of the year for decades accumulates differently, and usually more, than one lived in continuously.
We work across Old Saybrook Center, Saybrook Point, Fenwick (borough), Knollwood and Cornfield Point, in a town of about 10,500.
How we run an estate
Walkthrough first, number second. Someone sees the property before anything is quoted — in person, or by video if you're managing this from another state. That visit is what produces the load count and the day count.
Sorting is the job. Hauling is the easy part. The crew works one room at a time and sets aside anything that looks like it matters rather than loading it: documents, photographs, contents of safes and lockboxes, jewellery, military items, anything with an account number on it. We don't appraise, so the threshold is low on purpose — if it's a maybe, you see it first.
Donations where possible. Usable furniture and household goods go to a charity partner instead of the transfer station. The labour cost is the same either way; the outcome isn't.
Days, not hours. Two to four working days for a full house, same crew across all of them, scheduled around your closing or listing date if you tell us about it up front.
Pricing
Estate work prices by truck space, confirmed on site before loading starts:
- Minimum Load — $179. A few small items: bags, boxes, or one small piece of furniture
- 1/4 Truckload (~5 yd³) — $359. Small bedroom contents, or a few bulky items
- 1/2 Truckload (~10 yd³) — $559. Small apartment contents or several large furniture items
- Full Truckload (~20 yd³) — $979. Full home cleanout or major renovation debris
Why we won't quote a house over the phone. Two properties with identical square footage can differ by three loads depending on what's in the basement, and neither of us finds that out from a description. The walkthrough costs you nothing and produces a written number. For a property big enough to need it, pairing the crew with a 20-yard can at $647 usually works out faster and cheaper than sending the truck back and forth — the can takes the bulk while the crew keeps sorting.
Managing this from out of state
You do not need to fly in for a cleanout. Most of the executors we work with don't.
The walkthrough happens on video or gets documented in photographs, whichever suits you. The quote comes by email in writing. Access gets arranged with whoever has the key — an agent, an attorney, a family friend, a neighbour. Nothing gets thrown away without you having seen the set-aside pile, and payment comes after the job rather than before it. The invoice lists what left the property and where it went, which is usually what the probate file needs anyway.
