Everything in your basement got carried down there one trip at a time, over years — and a basement cleanout is the day the whole archive comes back up the stairs at once. That staircase is the job. The sorting is sentimental work, the carrying is cardio, and the can in the driveway is the finish line that keeps both moving.
This page is the rent-a-can version of the job: you sort and carry, we handle steel and disposal. The other version — our crew does the stairs — has its own page, and the honest fork between them comes down to whose knees are involved. Cans for Connecticut basements have been our bread and butter since 2014; here's what we've learned about sizing them.
Why the 15-yard is the typical basement can
Basements fool people in both directions at once: they look smaller than they are (decades of stacking is dense storage), and their contents weigh more than living-room furniture (tools, paint-can archaeology, that treadmill). The typical booking — typical, never guaranteed — is the 15-yard at $547 with 2,000 lbs included.
Step down to the 10-yard at $447 when the basement is one storage corner rather than a life's collection. Step up to the 20-yard at $647 when the basement is the first phase of emptying the whole house, or when a workshop's worth of iron is coming up with the boxes.
Whichever tier you book, the driveway sees the same can: every size in our fleet shares one footprint — about a parking spot — so a bigger weight allowance never means a bigger squeeze past the garage. The fleet logic lives at one can, every job.

The damp-basement disclosure
Here's the honesty section, because basements are where our weight conversations get real: wet material weighs more, and basements make things wet. A carpet that went through one spring seep, boxes that sat on a damp slab for a decade, upholstered furniture in an unfinished cellar — all of it drinks, and all of it carries that water onto the transfer-station scale. A flood-recovery load can weigh dramatically more than the same contents would have dry.
None of that is a reason to panic; it's a reason to size honestly. Your allowance is included in the flat rate, overage past it is $0.10/lb with no markup, and a two-minute description of the basement's history — dry and finished, or damp and unfinished, or actively flooded last month — lets us put the right allowance under the job before the scale does it for us. For the pattern in real numbers, our weight guide publishes actual load data by size, methodology included: the small-can tiers carry the biggest overages precisely because dense, damp cleanout debris rides in them.

Dry storage or spring flooding — the honest history gets you the honest size.
Rent the can, or send our crew down?
The can is the budget play and the control play: $547 for the typical basement, 7 days to work through it at your own pace, every keep-or-toss call yours in private. It's the right product when the sorting matters more than the schedule and there are able backs in the house.
The crew is the right product when there aren't — or when the staircase is steep, the timeline is a home sale, or the basement took water and every armload weighs double. Basement cleanouts, full service: two of us, the truck, the stairs handled. Plenty of jobs split the difference — the family sorts for a weekend, then the crew clears what's left.
Basement jobs — customer reviews
Genuine basement work from our review corpus — a 20-yard rented for insulation coming out of a Stamford basement, plus crew-side cleanouts for the jobs where we did the stairs.
Y “My wife and I needed to rent a dumpster for old insulation being removed from our basement. Junk Pros answered our call late in the evening and they were able to get us a 20 yard dumpster the next day. They were attentive and extremely easy to work with. Scheduling removal was easy and we would highly recommend them and use again if ever needed.”
Y “What a great experience we had with Junk Pros today! I just called yesterday and they were able to come today (a Saturday) and hauled off an almost full truck of junk from the attic, basement & garage that was left behind after the last owners moved out!! They were friendly, careful, organized and on time . . . I would definitely use them again!”
F “Without Stamford Junk Pros, cleaning out our parents' house would not have been possible. Many rooms were piled floor to ceiling with stuff including a huge basement and attic. The crew was professional and dug into the hard work without complaint. They showed up on time each day and quoted us accurately. They were great communicators and made an emotionally taxing job feel easy. We'd use them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them.”
G “These folks are amazing. I had a 54 x 25' basement filled with 65 years worth of household stuff, tools, table saws, steel storage drawers, furniture, you name it. They sent a crew and three trucks. They worked nonstop for seven hours”(Truncated at source — full text on Google.)
