Sizing an estate, honestly
Households compress badly — a lifetime of stuff is bigger than it looks on the shelves:
- Apartment-scale estate, or one floor of a house — the 15-yard at $547. Bedroom sets, a living room, kitchen contents.
- A full house — the 20-yard at $647, our most-booked estate can. Multiple rooms of furniture, the closets nobody opened for years, the basement layer.
- A full house plus attic, garage, and decades of depth — the 30/40 two-can tier at $899: two 20-yard cans. Take both at once, or run drop-fill-swap so one can cycles while the family keeps sorting — the pattern most estates end up preferring.
Weight is rarely the issue on estate loads — furniture and household goods are bulky, not dense — so unlike renovation debris, estate cans usually fill by volume well inside the included allowance. What can't ride, and what to do with it
Estate houses hold half a century of things nobody would buy today, and a few of them can't go in the can:
- Paint, solvents, oil, chemicals — the garage-shelf archaeology. Route through CT DEEP household-hazardous-waste collection days; most towns run several a year.
- Batteries of any kind, liquids of any kind, medical waste.
- CFC appliances, mattresses, tires — accepted with disclosed per-item passthrough fees, or route appliances through the appliance removal service.
- Electronics — CT law bans TVs, computers, and monitors from the trash entirely; town drop-offs take them free. Details: electronics disposal in CT.
Donation-worthy furniture is worth one phone call before it's dumpster-bound — we keep a list of charities we work with that take good condition pieces, and an emptier can is a cheaper can.

What you see is what you book — no zone pricing, no driveway surcharges, no weekend delivery fees. Standard charges for overweight, extension days, and certain prohibited items disclosed above and confirmed at booking.
The estate timeline vs the rental window
7 days come included, and unlike a renovation, an estate cleanout's pace is set by grief and geography — siblings flying in, weekends between visits, a probate calendar that doesn't care about dumpster schedules. Three patterns work:
The single sprint. Family converges for one long weekend, the can arrives Friday, everything happens at once. The included window covers it with days to spare.
The extension. Sorting stretches — it usually does — and days past the window run $15 each. We don't rush families; extend by phone as many times as the house needs.
The relay. Book the two-can tier as drop-fill-swap: fill the first can over a weekend, we swap it, the second waits for the next visit. The estate empties in stages without a can sitting full in the driveway between them.
And when the sorting is done but the heavy carrying isn't, the honest next call is the full-service estate cleanout crew — two of us, the truck, done in a day.
